Kwasi meets the School Council
Mr Kwarteng visited the school to meet the pupils’ school council, as well as touring the classrooms.
It was also a special day for Year 1 students who have been working on their literacy skills this term and studying traditional stories. The students dressed up as their favourite fairytale characters and talked about their most loved fairy stories.
Mr Kwarteng was happy to join in the fun and learning, and read the Year 1 pupils a short story before going on to meet the school council who fired questions at him about his job and life in the Houses of Parliament.
Laleham Headteacher Miss Shirley Lunn said, “The school was proud to welcome Mr Kwarteng and we were pleased to show him all our recent developments and achievements around the school. As an important local figure of standing he’s a wonderful role model for the children to meet, and they were very excited to do so. He was generous with his time answering the School Council's questions, and the Year 1 children really enjoyed the story he read to them. They have been working really hard this term on their literacy, and were excited to be dressing up and hearing the story from Mr Kwarteng."
Mr Kwarteng said, “I was very pleased to be coming to visit Laleham again. In a busy Westminster schedule it’s great to be able to spend some more time in the village and at Laleham School. I enjoyed meeting Miss Lunn and the School Council, and seeing all the children dressed as fairytale characters."
The day also helped the Year 1 children to support the school’s new charity link. For dressing up each student donated 50p to the Lilly Orphanage Kindergarten. Based in Kampala Uganda, the aim of the charity is to offer free basic education to young orphans irrespective of sex, creed, race, tribe, colour, ethnicity or family background. By the end of the day the children were pleased to learn they had raised £50 for the charity.
