A FORMER council leader who "worked tirelessly" in the community is set to be made an honorary alderman.

Former council leader John Packman
Spelthorne Borough Council has proposed to grant the title to former councillor John Packman for his long service.
Mr Packman was a borough councillor from 1991 to 2011 representing the Ashford Town ward. The Conservative member lost his seat in May 2011 after being defeated by former mayor Caroline Spencer at local elections.
The proposal will be ratified at a special ceremony to be held at the Council offices on Thursday 30 August at 7.30pm.
Council Leader Frank Ayers commented:"This is a fitting way for the Council to show its gratitude to John Packman for his dedication to this Borough and its residents. He worked tirelessly in the interests of Spelthorne and joins the ranks of previous Leaders of the Council who have become Aldermen and Freemen."
